Thank you, Sedona Women and Friends, for your amazing support for Yavapai Big Brothers/Big Sisters’ “Bowl For Kids' Sake” event in 2019!

Together we raised $5400 in our debut involvement with this effort, the fourth highest contributing team throughout the region, and more than enough to fully support a “Big-Little match” in Yavapai County.  And we had a blast doing so! Some of our members have even gone on to pursue becoming mentors in the program.

BFKS 2020 is now here and Yavapai Big Brothers/Big Sisters needs us again!

SEDONA WOMEN TO ROCK N’ BOWL FOR CHILDREN at the
“BOWL FOR KIDS SAKE” Annual Event
Cliff Castle Casino Hotel, Camp Verde
March 29, 2020  3:00-5:00 pm
Followed by more (no-host) drinks and dinner at Moscato’s!
Remember the effect that a mentor had in your life:  a non-related, successful, interested adult who took a stand for you in some way and made a big difference for your progress through life.

You can again become a “defender of potential” for vulnerable children in limited circumstances. Through BBBS’s unique mentoring program, at-risk kids can succeed and thrive in life as a result of one-to-one mentoring, in supervised matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children, ages 6-18 (Littles.)  Together we can help to “ignite and realize potential and build futures; nurture children and strengthen communities.”  “BFKS,” Bowl for Kids’ Sake, is the largest annual fundraiser for the Big Brother/Big Sister organization.

Sedona Women will again join the community for a fun-filled afternoon of free bowling, hot dogs, soft drinks, beer or wine at the Cliff Castle Casino on March 29th, 3:00-5:00 pm.
We will be forming several teams of 5-6 bowlers.
Details:
  • Prior to the event, each bowler solicits pledges from friends, family and co-workers who want to support at-risk children.  Optimally, each bowler obtains at least $125 in pledges.
  • Your donations can qualify for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, for either the 2019 OR 2020 tax year.
  • A  BFKS T-shirt for all who reach the $125 goal!
  • Pledges are recorded either manually, on-line or via a phone app.
  • BBBS will collect the pledges for you after the event.
  • Family &  friends can participate, as team mates or as your “designated bowler” (i.e. you don’t HAVE to bowl)
  • You can join one of the existing Sedona Women teams or form an additional one with your friends.

Last year we all discovered that bowling skills are not required!! This project is all about FUN, SOCIALIZING and MAKING A DIFFERENCE for our community.  The WINNERS are the children who will bloom and shine through the commitment and efforts of their BIGS, the special adult mentors who make them a priority.

There will be more information as well as opportunities to sign up to Bowl and/or to Pledge a donation at the February and March meetings.

For further information OR to SIGN-UP NOW to fundraise and bowl or just to donate, contact Deb Nye  @ DTNinAZ@aol.com or 928-451-1207.

Additional information about the Big Brothers Big Sisters …………
As part of its over 100 year old parent organization, the Yavapai Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization (YBBBS) services the Verde Valley in its Mission: “…to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives…Fundamentally. For the Better. Forever!”

The organization:

  • Provides a free service: no charge to Littles, the efforts of Bigs are voluntary.
  • Produces evidence-based results, including significantly lower rates of at- risk behavior, use of illegal drugs and alcohol, teen pregnancy, skipping school, arrests; and higher rates of school performance, increased  educational expectations, higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships with peers and adults, social acceptance, parental trust;
  • Creates generational change for years to come.

There are currently close to 60 matches active in the areas served by Verde Valley office of YBBBS, Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Clarkdale, and Jerome, yet approximately 40 children are waiting for a match.  And it costs thousands of dollars per year for Yavapai BBBS professional staff to make and support these matches.  The” Bowl For Kids’ Sake” annual event goes a long way to supplying the budget and paving the way to a better future for all of our children.
